I really like Windows Live Writer.  But what's up with the installer?

Why should it take long to determine which Windows Live applications are installed?  Hey, Microsoft developers, I've got a new word for you: manifest.  Would it be too hard to just have a file that contains the Windows Live applications and their versions?  I'm sure it would take a lot less time to "Search".

Oh, yeah.  A loooong time.  Just under 15 minutes.

Seriously, folks.  If you can't write better apps than that, I have grave concerns for the future of your company.

It's charitable of you to not already have concerns about the future of their company Here, allow me to introduce you to Windows Vista. Vista, Rip. Rip, Vista. On the other hand, this is the company that managed to live down Microsoft Bob, so viewed in that context, perhaps I exaggerate.

I'm intimately familiar with Vista. And when I say "intimate", I mean, Vista's f***ed me in the a**.

Yeah, that's intimate.

You don't even know the half of it. :( But yeah, the installer sucks big time, a much better one is on the way.

For the record, 15 minutes is uncommon (though far from unheard of). For most people it takes less than 2 minutes, which is still about 1 minute 55 seconds too long.

In the meantime, our Technical Preview release is a simple MSI. You can download it from our blog, windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com.

Joe - for the record, I've installed LiveWriter on a couple of other machines, and the install went without a hitch.
